I’ve decided that, this year, I’m going to get into the Christmas spirit even if it kills me. And if I have to be Christmassy, all you motherfuckers are coming along for the ride whether you like it or not. That means tinsel, that means wreaths, that means poinsettia bushes, that means the whole nine terrifying yards right down to the Santa Claus wicker man we’re gonna burn Nicolas Cage alive in to slake the blood thirst of Christmas overfiend Krampus!

Yes, I decided to do a random Misfits celebration to lead up to Halloween. If you don’t like it, then you can lump it, Chuckles. We’ll call this the second day of Misfitsween, thanks to my previous video on Friday.

I never got to see the New Misfits when they were around. It goes without saying I’ve never seen the original Misfits, either. But I have seen the Jerry Only Traveling Punk Rock All-Stars version of the Misfits (Marky Ramone/Robo, Jerry, and Dez Cadena) and I have seen Michael Graves doing Misfits songs and his solo stuff back in 2005, so I figure that’s pretty close to the same thing, right? Right.
The only thing I could add to the list is to go see Danzig now that he’s doing a mid-set chunk of Misfits songs with Doyle, but Danzig is really expensive and doesn’t come to Louisville. So we’ll pretend I’ve seen enough various Misfits in various projects that it adds up to one Misfits concert and call it a Feel Good Friday.

These guys are one of the best bands I’ve seen live. I’ve never seen an official full-fledged show, but I’ve seen two or three festival appearances by them, and they never fail to be awesome. Add them to the list of bands (it’s long) that need to stop in Louisville once in a blue moon.

Yeah, I know I missed actual St. Patrick’s Day. I suck at being Irish. I’ll just blame it on the booze I didn’t drink, and we’ll all pretend that it wasn’t because I came home from work and fell right to sleep. Deal? Deal. I’m totally not old and lame at 27. (Well, okay, I kind of am.)
I featured these guys last St. Patrick’s Day, and since they’re the best band I’ve ever seen live, I’ll feature them again.
And a bonus video, just because I owe you guys one from St. Patrick’s Day:
Sláinte mhaith, boys and girls.

I have a love/hate affair with YouTube. I love it, because I love instant access to a wide variety of weird videos, but I hate it because I’ll get sucked into searching, clicking on other links, and general aimless browsing for hours if I’m not careful. For example, I was browsing the site when I stopped to listen to The Foo Fighters on Jools Holland from back when they had Pat Smear.
That lead me to rewatching the Probot video for “Shake Your Blood” that I FGF’d already. That lead to me watching my actual Feel Good Friday video, Queens of the Stone Age (with Dave Grohl on drums) doing “No One Knows” from some festival somewhere.
That, of course, segued to me watching “Speaking In Tongues” from The Eagles of Death Metal. Again. That’s probably 1000 times now. I can’t believe that’s the guy from Queens of the Stone Age.
Internet access is a dangerous thing.

I love all the cameos in this. Plus who doesn’t love a little karaoke on Feel Good Friday?

I have a new band I’ve recently added to the list of bands I want to see live before I die. Sadly, they’ve been in town several times (usually with The Rev. Horton Heat or Hank III) and for some reason or another I never got to check them out. I will next time. I will drop everything and drag my sorry butt to the show, because after watching this video and listening to their music, there’s no reason for me not to.
I miss the best shows. I even missed Hank III and Unknown Hinson when that tour came through town. I want to say the Shack*Shakers were there for that one too, but don’t quote me on that. That could just be my dream lineup. Still, just on the basis of this compilation video (and this video) and the other songs I’ve heard, I’ve got to see these guys.
I’m taking a lesson from JQP and sneaking in like five songs into one Feel Good Friday. The more the merrier, and what is FGF without merriment and a healthy bottle of liquid chicken?
