Christmas Retrospecticus
So, Christmas. That happened. You know, in spite of myself, I had a pretty good holiday. I guess forcing myself to feel the Christmas spirit worked, at least partially, because I didn’t totally hate the holiday season. The time I took off from work probably helped that, too. Either way, Christmas was fun.
For the first time in many years, we did our dual family celebration. For as long as I could remember, we did two family Christmases, one on my mom’s side and one on my dad’s side. Naturally, my family went to both as one was in the afternoon and the other in the evening. Then for a few years the schedules didn’t work out or whatever, and we just went to my dad’s side of the family Christmas. However, this year, we did both of them again as my cousin’s get-together was at 6 and my uncle’s wasn’t until 7:30ish. So at one cousin’s I had steak and chili and crudites, and at my uncle’s I merely gorged myself on peanut butter balls. So one was relatively healthy (lean cut of ribeye, lean beef chili, etc.) and delicious, and the other was just plain delicious.
These holidays just get harder and harder to deal with, though this year at my uncle’s house we had games to pass the time. I thoroughly ruined Scene It? as a family activity by single-handedly beating the other team on my lonesome in the first game, but in the longer second game it was a bit more even. Either way, my team won both games (naturally). As for the presents, it’s hard to shop for me (and I have trouble shopping for anyone else).
Here’s the round-up:
cash money dolla billz y’all
$50 Best Buy gift card
$30 Kohl’s Cash
stainless steel/diamond cross necklace (awesome-looking)
Goodnight Keith Moon (also awesome, and a gorgeous book to boot)
Seasons 1&2 of The Venture Brothers (I watched the Krampus episode on Christmas)
fluffy fleece robe (that I got a month ago but is technically Christmas)
gift card to my favorite local coffee shop (huzzah!)
a long-sleeved shirt for layering purposes
the standard gigantic tin of popcorn (I get my uncle handkerchiefs every year, he gets me a big tub of popcorn and money. It’s tradition.)
Other than that, it was slim pickings. I can’t be upset with that, because it was a pretty good haul all things considered. Plus I had fun and got to hang out with the family, and that was enough. Well, that and a tray full of peanut butter balls that got stuffed into my food-hole.
Hope you guys had a good holiday, too.
W00t for Christmas loot! :D
Heck yes, that’s a haul! I’m jealous of quite a bit of it. Not the layering tee. I have many of those. As in, I think half of my closet is layering tees, which calls into question just exactly what said tees are layering with. I think they’re turning to each other these days.
I’m really glad you had a good Christmas, Ron.
I got a gift card to my favorite coffee shop too! Wow, it’s like we’re twins!!!
Jade: Did your loot arrive today like it was supposed to?
Holly: I wear long sleeve shirts over short sleeve shirts over long sleeve shirts, just like Stewie when he pretends to be a WB high school show star. I only have three other layering tees, and this is one that I could wear with like, short-sleeved button-down shirts moreso than tees or polos. I’ve only recently gotten into layering thanks to a decrease in sweat via weight loss. I’m glad you had a good Christmas too!
Janelle: That’s crazy! Yours wasn’t $25 was it? If so, this is getting creepy.
I should look into some layering tees.
We went to Vegas. When Christmas happened, it was kind of odd, because we didn’t get anything for anyone but the kid. He was very excited about his loot though.
In the afternoon, my mom surprised me with portable speakers for my iPod. She got them before we decided not to exchange gifts. Despite feeling a bit bah humbug this year, I kind of missed the tradition on the day. Next year, I think we are doing things the way they were again.
I did buy myself a camera, however.
Well, Christmas is really more for kids anyway. At least the trading of goodies, anyway. What kind of camera did you buy you for Christmas?
Yes, it did–and you SO didn’t have to! *hugs and smooches* Thanks much for awesome Deadwood loot! :D
I bought a Canon Rebel XSi. I hope to use it soon, because I really haven’t used it as much as I want yet. I want to shoot some of the areas around here that have been used in movies, for some blog fodder.
