Jack Black Sucks (And Other Things You Already Knew)
I saw Year One last weekend. Not many other people did. The crowd was sparse, as were the laughs. Here’s the review.
It’s hard to believe Jack Black has gone from High Fidelity and Tenacious D to doing dreck like this. It’s even harder to believe that Harold Ramis was associated with the project (though he’s been terrible for most of his career too, even if it hurts me to speak ill of the man who gave us Caddyshack).
To call me disappointed is to remind the world that I avoided most of the trailers for the film. That was my mistake. Next time I won’t be so stupid.

Did you like Tenacious D? and/or Nacho Libre? School of Rock?
Just curious, we could have an interesting conversation on those topics… email me!!!

The trailers didn’t make it seem all that bad, although having seen “History of the World Part One”. I immediately thought this was going to be HOTW Lite. Also, when much of the trailers are highlighting the second banana and not the supposed star, you’ve got to figure something’s not good.

I fucking hated him in High Fidelity and knew that everyone would agree with me and I’d never see him in a movie again. Shows what I know.

Bubblewench: I love The D and School of Rock. As for Nacho Libre, I’ve never tried to finish it. I may have to give it a try sometime.
Jade: I avoided pretty much all the trailers for it. I would make the argument at this point that Michael Cera is more of a star than Jack Black is, but that’s kind of quibbling over semantics.
Bez: I think he’s a lot like Will Ferrell. They’re both acceptable in very small, very controlled doses. It’s when you put them at the front of something and make them the centerpiece (while failing to reign them in) that you run into serious trouble. Obviously making him the star of the movie isn’t limiting the dosage of JB, and he’s worn on me very quickly (unlike Seth Rogen, who gets a pass because he doesn’t constantly scream for my attention).

I watched the trailers and thought it seemed kind of funny, but I wasn’t sure if I wanted to go to the theatre or just wait for video.
It will probably be the latter, based on what you said.

Jack Black is a talentess jerk, not funny and totally sucks at acting. I bet he is sleeping with the directors and producers, I cannot believe he’s been in the bussiness for so long! He is even lamer than Jim Carrey at his last 5 movies!
