Shop Girl
As I learned tonight, there’s a great way to both A) use a $100 gift card you have for a store and B) get the 15% monthly discount they offer for using your store-branded credit card. Here’s how it works. I tell you these things so you don’t spent 10 minutes at the register at 11:00 at night while you, the nice girl behind the counter, and the nice older woman who runs the U-Scan all try to figure out how this works. Someone needs to learn from my lessons, and it’s going to be you, blog-reading public.
First of all, there’s a certain order in which these things must be done. First, buy over $115 worth of stuff. In my case it was some long-sleeve teeshirts, a normal teeshirt, socks, a toque, two windshield wiper blades, a pair of pajama pants, some vitamins, a belt I’m going to have to take back because it’s too big, but that I love because of the trendy hipster douchebag belt buckle, and a pack of gum (to put me over $115).
Once you’ve assembled your sacks of wonderful items made by Chinese babies, you take them to the register and make sure you swipe your gift card first. That will take your total from $116 to $16. However, you haven’t gotten your 15% discount yet.
That’s why you put your remaining $16 on your Store Brand Credit Card. When they swipe your credit card, you automatically get that 15% discount, and it applies to your whole bill. So by going over $115 and putting that remaining $15 on your credit card, you get your discount retroactively applied to your gift card purchases and thus walk out of the store with $116 worth of stuff for a whopping 91 cents.
Damn, it feels good to be a gangsta.
